I went with mum to Tropicana City Mall in hopes of having a good meal. I was contemplating between Japanese ie Sushi Tei (safe) or Kiku Zakura (to try) or Igentis (something new to try).
After going through the directory, we headed off to Kiku Zakura first. Price was a bit steep from the looks of it so we walked towards Igentis. Situated near the newly opened GSC Cinema, we viewed the menu on display at their entrance and thought to give it a try.
With the kind of menu (simple Western and local delights) and price (average RM8 to RM20), I was not expecting much of service. We sat ourselves at a table nearest to the entrance. We looked through the menu again and called for the waiter. I had Chicken Chop and my mum had Fried Udon with Beef.
The food came relatively fast. The presentation was decent. My mum's Fried Udon looked more like Hokkien Mee if you asked me - all dark and with bits of meat and chilis as well as veges, but without the dark sauce. My mum said it was very salty.
The Chicken Chop, it came with lots of chips, and a larger than usual amount of vege salad and cucumber slices with thousand island. The portion to me was not bad in that sense. I went for the chips first. It was freshly cooked and so they were crispy. I liked it. I then jabbed at the salad and thought they were fresh which is a plus point. I then cut a piece of the partially de-boned drumstick. Not nice. The sauce was bland. The meat was tender but more like not thoroughly cooked. Too bad. That minused a lot of points. Boo.
Halfway through my meal, while jabbing at the salad I was horrified to see a bug on the side of it! And it was still alive (its legs were still moving when I moved the vege)! Egads! But I was not that fussed to ask for a change so I just pushed that corner of the salad aside and continued eating. Though, the first sight of it already put off my appetite.
I rushed through the meal and only enjoyed the chips. The free drink that came with each course was nice though. We left for home as soon as possible and I told myself I would not go there again. One bug is enough to say no to any eatery for quite awhile for me.
